Plan 9 and Inferno at the Google Summer of Code

Ventivac - venti & vac for inferno, plus more!

Intro

This project will bring a venti and vac tools to inferno. But more importantly, vac will be improved to use data fingerprinting for determining block boundaries, which will reduce the number of unique vac fragments to store in venti. This idea was described in the original venti paper as suggested future work.

Some information about me: Mechiel Lukkien (mjl). This project is mentored by Charles Forsyth.

More later

Many of the details still need to be worked out. More information will follow later on. Suggestions, feature requests, etc. are all very welcome. Current work can be tracked by reading my “blog” and source code in my mercurial repository.
